2. Sodium carbonate-Defatted Beef Heart (Fat-Free), Freeze-Dried Granules
Average particle diameter: 3~5mm
10 vacuum packages, 25g/50g per vacuum package
100g freeze-dried meat equals 500g chopped fresh meat, can be used to prepare 1 litre chopped meat broth
Sourced from South Australian grass‑fed, free‑range cattle raised without antibiotic feed, our beef and heart are certified free from human & animal pathogens in accordance with Australian food export control requirements, and the meat contains exceptionally low antibiotic residues, ensuring optimal performance in culturing sensitive anaerobes.
Each batch is accompanied by official certification for animal disease testing.
For destinations with strict import regulations, inert gas autoclave treatment is available on request. meeting rigorous biosecurity standards while preserving most of reducing capacity.
These fat-free, freeze-dried granules—produced via sodium hydroxide defatting—serve as nutrient-rich substrates for anaerobic cultivation. The inclusion of chopped, defatted beef acts as the proteolytic enzymatic substrate of cultured bacteria, while the sulfhydryl groups rich in muscle help maintain a highly reduced, oxygen‑depleted environment, creating optimal conditions for anaerobes' growth.
Beef Heart Granules offer specific advantages over standard beef granules, including:
- Lower residual fat content
- Higher levels of muscle tissue and creatinine
- Milder saponification reaction, less loss of nutrients in the meat
- Enhanced reductive potential, favouring the cultivation of fastidious anaerobic bacterial species
Use
These granules are ideal for the preparation of Chopped Meat Broth or Modified Chopped Meat Medium (ATCC Medium 1490). Such media can be used for:
- Pre-reduced and anaerobically sterilised (PRAS) media culturing
- Suitable for the cultivation, maintenance, and metabolic analysis of both spore-forming and non-spore-forming obligate anaerobes
- Effective as holding media for anaerobic cultures
- Used for promoting Clostridium sporulation and toxin production
- Compatible with gas-liquid chromatography (GLC) for profiling bacterial metabolic end products
Storage
- Unopened granules should be stored in a dry, light-protected environment at –20 °C. If possible, storage at –65 °C is recommended. Under these conditions, the product has a shelf life of 2~3 years.
- Once opened, the granules must be immersed in 25mM sodium hydroxide (NaOH) solution and stored at –20 °C. The shelf life under these conditions is 3 months.
