Overview

TE Buffer, pH 8.0 - TE Buffer is the standard storage and dilution buffer for purified DNA. Tris maintains a mildly alkaline pH while EDTA chelates trace Mg2+ and other divalent cations that support nuclease activity.

This SKU is a practical companion to GMExpression's TSS, Inoue TFB, TAE/TBE, and cloning workflow products, removing one routine in-house preparation step for molecular-biology users.

Use and Applications

  • Plasmid, genomic DNA, PCR-product, oligonucleotide, and sequencing-library storage
  • DNA dilution before restriction digestion, ligation, or transformation
  • Template handling for CFPS expression plasmids
  • Routine molecular-biology buffer preparation

Note

  • For sequencing or enzymatic workflows sensitive to EDTA, TE can be diluted 1:10 before downstream use or replaced with 10 mM Tris-HCl alone.

Cautions

Caution. EDTA can inhibit Mg2+-dependent enzymes if carried into reactions at high concentration.
Caution. Do not use TE as an RNA storage buffer unless RNase-free release testing has been specified for that lot.

Storage and Expiry · Safety

  • Store at room temperature.
  • Unopened shelf life: 24 months from manufacture after QC validation.
  • Transport. Ships at ambient temperature; no cold chain required. Protect from freezing and from temperatures above 40 deg C.
  • Handling and PPE. Wear a laboratory coat, nitrile gloves, and safety glasses for routine handling. The formulated buffer presents no significant hazard under normal use; avoid ingestion and eye contact. Consult the Safety Data Sheet before use.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q1. Is this the same as Tris-HCl pH 8.0?
No. TE is a working-strength DNA storage buffer and includes EDTA; Tris-HCl pH 8.0 is a concentrated stock without chelator.
Q2. Can TE be supplied at pH 7.5 or pH 9.0?
Yes. These variants are straightforward extensions of the same Tris-EDTA chemistry.
