Overview

SDS-PAGE Resolving Gel Buffer, 1.5 M Tris-HCl, pH 8.8 - Resolving Gel Buffer is the pH 8.8 Tris-HCl component of the classical Laemmli discontinuous SDS-PAGE system.

Although the chemistry overlaps with the Tris-HCl pH series, this dedicated SDS-PAGE-labelled SKU helps protein laboratories avoid confusion between stacking and resolving gel buffers.

Use and Applications

  • Hand-casting SDS-PAGE resolving gels
  • Protein separation by classical Laemmli electrophoresis
  • SDS-PAGE Hand-Casting Suite with stacking gel buffer and Laemmli sample buffer
  • Teaching laboratories and protein-biochemistry core facilities

Instruction

1Use as the Tris component in resolving gel recipes at the protocol-specified final concentration.
2Mix with acrylamide/bis solution, SDS, water, APS, and TEMED according to the gel percentage table.
3Pair with pH 6.8 stacking gel buffer for the upper gel layer.

Note

  • Acrylamide/bis solution is not included in this SKU and is outside the current GMExpression manufacturing boundary in the Task 4 report.

Cautions

Caution. Do not confuse with stacking gel buffer. Resolving buffer is pH 8.8 and typically 1.5 M.
Caution. Acrylamide handling requires separate institutional safety controls.

Storage and Expiry · Safety

  • Store at room temperature or 2-8 deg C.
  • Unopened shelf life: 24 months from manufacture after QC validation.
  • Transport. Ships at ambient temperature; no cold chain required. Protect from freezing and from temperatures above 40 deg C.
  • Handling and PPE. Wear a laboratory coat, nitrile gloves, and safety glasses for routine handling. This buffer is Tris-HCl only (SDS is supplied separately in the running and sample buffers); Tris is a mild irritant, so avoid eye contact. Consult the Safety Data Sheet before use.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q1. Can this be used as generic Tris-HCl pH 8.8?
Yes, but it is labelled and documented for SDS-PAGE resolving gel preparation.
Q2. Does this include SDS?
No. It is the Tris-HCl resolving gel buffer. SDS is added separately in the gel recipe.
