Overview
Anaerobic PBS (rPBS), Pre-Reduced - Anaerobic PBS (rPBS) extends the existing GMExpression PBS Cell Culture Grade product into the anaerobic microbiology workflow. It provides an isotonic wash and handling buffer for obligate anaerobes without exposing samples to oxygenated PBS.
It is distinct from PRAS Dilution Buffer: PRAS is optimised for serial dilution blanks, while rPBS is optimised as a larger-volume wash and sample-handling buffer.

Instruction
1Verify reduced status before use; the solution should be colourless or very faintly tinted, not pink.
2Withdraw using anaerobic technique and minimise headspace oxygen exposure.
3Use directly for washing, resuspension, or dilution steps where isotonic PBS composition is required.
4Use opened units promptly according to the protocol and closure type.
Note
- For serial dilution tubes, use PRAS Dilution Buffer. For larger-volume isotonic washing, use rPBS.
Cautions
Caution. Discard pink units for strict anaerobe work.
Caution. PBS is phosphate-based and may precipitate divalent cations if extra Ca2+ or Mg2+ is added.
Storage and Expiry · Safety
- Store at room temperature or 2-8 deg C away from light.
- Initial released shelf life: 12 months pending stability validation.
- Transport. Ships at ambient temperature; no cold chain required. Protect from freezing and from temperatures above 40 deg C.
- Handling and PPE. Wear a laboratory coat, nitrile gloves, and safety glasses for routine handling. Low chemical hazard; follow institutional anaerobic-culture and (for PRAS) sharps/septum handling procedures. Consult the Safety Data Sheet before use.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q1. Is rPBS sterile?
The intended product is sterile-filtered or validated sterile by the anaerobic manufacturing process before release.
Q2. Can rPBS be used for mammalian cells?
It is formulated for anaerobic microbiology. For mammalian cell culture, use standard PBS Cell Culture Grade unless reducing agents are specifically required.
