Overview

Good's Buffer 1 M Solution Series - The Good's Buffer 1 M Solution Series has 12 ready-to-use Good's buffer stocks, together with HEPES, MOPS, and MES, covers the practical pH 5.5-11.0 biological-buffer range.

Use and Applications

  • Protein purification, chromatography, and enzyme assay buffer formulation
  • Cell biology and CFPS buffer optimisation
  • Metal-sensitive workflows where phosphate and Tris are problematic
  • Custom pH screening across the Good's buffer family

Instruction

1Choose the buffer whose effective pH range brackets the experimental pH.
2Dilute the 1 M stock to the desired final concentration, typically 10-100 mM.
3Confirm final pH after salts, detergents, cofactors, or temperature changes are introduced.
4For custom pH orders, specify buffer name, pH at measurement temperature, counter-ion preference, and required sterility level.

Note

  • Good's buffers are selected because they generally show low biological reactivity, useful pKa values, and lower metal interaction than phosphate or Tris in many workflows.

Cautions

Caution. No buffer family is universally inert. Validate compatibility with metal ions, UV exposure, redox chemistry, and assay readouts.
Caution. High-concentration Good's buffer stocks can be viscous and should be mixed thoroughly before aliquoting.

Storage and Expiry · Safety

  • Store at 2-8 deg C or room temperature as specified per SKU.
  • Unopened shelf life target: 24 months from manufacture after QC validation.
  • Transport. Ships at ambient temperature; no cold chain required. Protect from freezing and from temperatures above 40 deg C.
  • Handling and PPE. Wear a laboratory coat, nitrile gloves, and safety glasses for routine handling. The formulated buffer presents no significant hazard under normal use; avoid ingestion and eye contact. Consult the Safety Data Sheet before use.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q1. Why buy the full set?
The set supports rapid pH optimisation without in-house preparation of many individual buffer stocks.
Q2. Can pH points differ from the default table?
Yes. Customer-specified pH points within each buffer's effective range are a natural extension of the series.
