Aminoglycoside broad-spectrum antibiotic derived from the culture fluid of Streptomyces kanamyceticus that binds to the 70S ribosomal subunit; inhibits protein translation; causes coding errors. Antimicrobial spectrum: gram-negative and positive bacteria, mycoplasmas (mycoplasma).
