Genipin, an iridoid extracted from Gardenia jasminoides and Genipa americana fruits, is a biocompatible crosslinker favoured over synthetic agents such as glutaraldehyde(GA). It reacts selectively with primary amino groups in proteins and polysaccharides to form stable covalent networks, thereby enhancing mechanical integrity, stability and shelf life.
